If you’re like me, you’ve probably had a vague understanding of ritual. Over the last couple years, my curiosity and respect for it began to increase. As I started creating a set of fragrance blends, what first came to me was the familiar language of “experience.” This meant capturing scents that reminded me of moments that captured the senses and held weight. Moments that were filled with remembrance and longing. Experience.
Along the way, I found myself sitting at a workshop when the word ritual came up. What I came to realize that day, was that I actually had a collection of candles centered around ritual. There’s more to be learned about ritual. One thing I do know is that, more than disengaged habits we happen to perform, rituals are intentional and to be noticed and marked. These candles are all created around moments, seasons and spaces that are intentional, and to be noticed and marked. They hold weight, usher in remembrance and speak to our longing. Each of these candles will eventually have its own invitational liturgy. Here’s to making room as candles meet ritual.
