A Liturgy for the Lighting of this Candle

May this fire and fragrance be a tactile reminder of welcome for my eyes to see,

my head to know, and my heart to settle into.

May the scent of red wine serve as a reminder of the table of communion

at which you tell me again how much you love me, like me, and long to be with me.

The table where I come to know I am always invited and welcomed, just as I am.

As you draw near, with tender care, may my body take this moment to relax and receive too.

Help me to stay put, as oil and wine pour over the wounds of my heart.

Give me courage to receive the welcome and care I most desperately long for

but am often afraid I will never have, or certainly could not keep.

Remind me of the home I always have in you.

May I return here often, into your welcome full of belonging and belovedness,

confession and communion, compassion and care.
