Spiritual Direction in Nature

You’ve likely heard of a wilderness retreat before. There’s something about getting away and getting into nature that helps us connect with our spirit and soul. Why don’t we utilize this more in our day to day life and rhythms? If you’re one who tends to connect well in nature, engaging spiritual direction in a nature setting. It may help you get out of your head a bit, and have an opportunity to connect with God, and reflect on what He is doing in you, in a more relaxed setting.

How it works:
We will start with a short prayer, offering God the time, and then the first part will be spent on your own with Him, in nature. This might be on a hike, in a kayak, or on a slow observant walk. After about 45 minutes we will gather together, to process what God brought up in your time together. Your time out in nature will serve to setup the rest of the time in direction. The remaining 30 minutes or so will operate like a typical spiritual direction session. Overall, you can expect an hour and a half to an hour and forty five minutes depending on time necessary to transfer from activity in nature to setting down together.

Where will we go:
There is some flexibility here, though I will recommend a couple spots
1. Bluegrass in Evansville (especially for getting out on the water)
2. Audubon Park in Henderson (good for hikes and walks)

How much it costs:
The spiritual direction session in nature is $60 for hiking/walking and $80 for kayaking (all equipment will be provided).

‘Solviture ambulando,’ wrote Augustine of Hippo, one of the early theologians of the Christian church. ‘It is solved by walking.’ What is ‘it?’ If you want to find out then you will have to do your own walking.
